CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup Second Round Updates

Trinidad and Tobago scored big against Dominican Republic last Wednesday, October 8, when Group 7 of the Second Round of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Men’s Caribbean Cup kicked off at the Ato Boldon Stadium, in Trinidad and Tobago. Kevin Molino netted his hat-trick in the 2nd.

4th and 24th minute, Kenwyne Jones scored his double in the 40th and 54th while Trevin Ceasar netted his single in the 75th minute. Johnathan Rafael Fana Frias scored the lone goal for Dominican Republic in the 88th minute.

In the other Group 7 game played at this same venue, Antigua & Barbuda came from behind to take all three points by defeating St Lucia 2-1. Kurt Frederick put St Lucia in the lead in the 42nd minute ending the first half 1-0 in their favour. However, 67th minute into the second half Keiran Murtagh equalized for Antigua & Barbuda.

Joshua Parker found the clincher for Antigua & Barbuda in the 90 plus minute to give his team their first victory at this stage. In the Group 8 games played at the Sylvio Cator Stadium, in Haiti, Barbados defeated St Kitts and Nevis 3-2 while Haiti drew 2-2 with French Guiana. Scoring for Barbados were Carl Johnson in the 16th minute, and Jason Boxhill in the 24th and 29th minute.

St Kitts and Nevis netted in the 12th and 86th minute with goals from Devaughn Elliott and Harrison Panayiotou respectively. In the Haiti vs French Guiana game it was the hosts who went ahead in the 29th minute. One minute later French Guiana drew level with a goal from Solivi Michael. Jean Alcenat scored in the 45th minute ending the first half 2-1. During the second half French Guiana took it to the hosts and equalized again in the 54th minute.

With no more goals coming from either teams this game ended 2-2. In Group 9 hosts Guadeloupe defeated St Vincent and the Grenadines 3-1 and Curacao drew with Martinique 1-1 at the Stade Rene Serge Nabajoth in Guadeloupe. Scoring for Guadeloupe were Thomas Gamiette in the 41st, Ludovic Gotin in the 53rd and Loic Nestor in the 69th while Myron Samuels scored the consolation goal for St Vincent and the Grenadines in the 46th minute. Martinique scored in the 51st minute from a Julien Faubert goal after a goalless first half.

Curacao had to dig deep to draw level in the 90 plus minute when Vidarrell Merencia scored the equalizer to end the game 1-1. Games are scheduled to resume tomorrow at these same venues when Dominican Republic meets Antigua & Barbuda at 6:00pm, and Trinidad & Tobago hosts St Lucia at 8:15pm. In Group 8 French Guiana faces St Kitts and Nevis at 5:00pm and Haiti plays Barbados at 7:30pm.

St Vincent and the Grenadines takes on Curacao at 6:00pm while Guadeloupe challenges Martinique at 8:30pm.

The Final Round will take place in Montego Bay, Jamaica, between November 10-17 when the six top teams, along with Cuba and the hosts Jamaica, will be placed in two Groups A and B, from which the third and fourth play-off and the finalists will emerge.
