Teams in line for CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup finals

With just six sets of games left to decide the finalists of the 2014 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Men’s Caribbean Cup in Groups 7, 8 and 9 the battle is getting tougher. Last evening, Friday October 10, in the Group 7 games played at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Trinidad &Tobago, the Soca Warriors defeated St Lucia 2-0 to take the lead with six points from two games.

The goal scorers were Antaulla Guerra in the 6th and 67th minute. Dominican Republic drew 0-0 with Antigua & Barbuda. Antigua & Barbuda now has four points, Dominican Republic has one and St Lucia nil. Haiti are clinging on to the lead in Group 8 with four points after beating Barbados 4-2 last evening at the Sylvio Cato Stadium, in Haiti.

Kervens Belfort netted in the 3rd and 43rd minute while Wilde Guerrier scored in the 27th and Jean Alcenat in the 67th. St Kitts & Nevis edged out French Guiana 2-1 to hold three points.

Barbados has three points as well while French Guiana has only one point. In Group 9, Martinique defeated hosts Guadeloupe 2-1 at the Serge Nabajoth Stadium, in Guadeloupe, to take the lead in that group with four points. Julien Faubert netted both goals for Martinique in the 4th and 66th minute, while Rudy Vouteau scored in the 90th minute for Guadeloupe.

Next is line in this group is St Vincent & the Grenadines with three points after beating Curacao 1-0 yesterday courtesy of an Oalex Anderson goal in the 4th minute. Guadeloupe has three points as well while Curacao has only a single point.

All three group games will continue on Sunday, October 12, at these same venues. In Group 7 St Lucia meets Dominican Republic at 4:00pm and at 6:15pm Trinidad & Tobago plays Antigua and Barbuda. In Group 8, Barbados take on French Guiana at 5:00pm and at 7:30pm Haiti faces St Kitts & Nevis.

Group 9 will complete its fixture with Martinique vs St Vincent and the Grenadines at 4:00pm while Guadeloupe and Curacao bring the curtains down in the feature game at 6:30pm.
