TCIFA Expands Youth League to Sister Islands

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands – The Turks and Caicos Islands Football Association is making moves to secure the future with the extension of the youth program from Providenciales to sister islands Grand Turk, North, Middle Caicos and South Caicos.

The unisex program targets young footballers between eight and 14 and bears the name of title sponsors FortisTCI. It aims to develop players at the grassroots and national levels.
TCIFA President Sonia Fulford commended the sponsors, noting that their investment supports national development.

“The TCIFA is totally indebted to FortisTCI for providing the resources to facilitate this critical league both in Providenciales and now for the sister islands.  In doing this, not only do they once again provide evidence of being excellent corporate citizens, but they also show a commitment to our youth and recognition of the significance of sports in their development and, by extension, in nation-building.  This league has given new life to the programs on our sister islands and we welcome it wholeheartedly,” Fulford said.

FortisTCI Senior Vice President of Corporate Service and CFO Ruth Forbes said the company is heartened by the enthusiasm of the players and coaches. She added, “This program is in keeping with our ongoing support for educational, sports and cultural activities.”

The sister-island league, which commenced last week, will run until year-end. It will comprise weekly small-side games in a round-robin format leading to a play-off and title match in each division.
