St. Maarten Boys’ U15 team take in the sights, sounds and a friendly match against Puerto Rico on the first stop of their Caribbean cruise
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico—The players on St. Maarten’s U15 Boys Team are getting the training and testing they need, even if they aren’t notching up the victories they desire, two matches into a five-game jaunt.
The team, stopping to take on the local teams while on a Caribbean cruise, went down to Puerto Rico 6-0 on June 30 and 5-0 to the USVI on July 1.
After the first game, St. Maarten Head Coach Burton said while there is more work to be done, the score is not a good indicator of his team’s ability.
“Our opponent was better than us technically, by far, but our team didn’t play to their maximum potential either. It was a great learning experience for all involved, and we now know there’s a lot more work to be done on the training pitch for us to be more competitive,” Guidaire Burton said.
The touring side’s remaining games are against St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia and Barbados.
