Bermuda Beat Puerto Rico in CFU Women’s U-20 Opener

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (CFU) – The Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Under 20 Championship finals opened here with Bermuda defeating Puerto Rico 1-0 in what was a high-tempo encounter. From the starting whistle, both teams battled for possession early in the first half of play.

Puerto Rico moved the ball well during the early moments but Bermuda used their pace and counter attacked. Bermuda scored the tournament's first goal in the 29th minute after Aaliyah Nolan received a ball wide, displaying remarkable talent.

Nolan skipped by her defenders and fired a low shot past Puerto Rico's goalkeeper Maria Guerrero, ending the first half in Bermuda’s favor.

During the second half, Bermuda continued to apply pressure but Puerto Rico returned from the break with much more focus, keeping more of the ball and creating chances in the early moments of the second half.

Although Puerto Rico created many chances in the second half, Bermuda held out for a 1-0 victory and took their first three points in Group A.
