Barbados 1-0 Anguilla

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (March 30, 2021)—A later header from Barbados’ Emile Saimovici was the deciding factor in a game of defense versus attack when the Tridents met Anguilla at Estadio Olimpico Félix Sánchez.

Good defensive shape matched with hard work from the Stern John-led Anguilla outfit put the Bajans to the test as they made their presence felt when it came down to defending their goal.

Barbados moved the ball from side to side and utilized the flanks as their main avenue of attack. Crosses rained in from left and right through Ryan Trotman and Rashad Jules, with Hadan Holligan charged with pulling the strings in midfield.

Anguilla’s Luke Paris and Javille Brooks manhandled the Bajan frontline, winning header after header to keep their team in the game well after the halfway mark.

The Bajan Tridents were, however, determined and finally got their go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute from the head of Emile Saimovici. He got the better of the Anguilla defense when it mattered most to guide home a Trotman corner kick.

The win is certain to give the Barbadians hope in the World Cup Qualifier campaign after losing their opener to Panama 1-0. They will next face the Dominican Republic on June 4.
