Dominican Republic (November 11, 2021) – Curacao and the Dominican Republic picked up important wins Thursday in the 2022 Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship Qualifiers to position themselves at the top of Groups A and Group B.

Group A started with the British Virgin Islands registering their first win of the tournament with a 1-0 result over Sint Maarten. This was thanks to brilliant goalkeeping from Mekhi Waters, who denied Sint Maarten several goal-scoring opportunities, including a penalty, and Luka Chalwell’s 70’ goal that delivered the win.

Curacao then enjoyed a resounding 10-0 victory over Dominica. It was a scene of prolific goal-scoring as Juruel Bernadina (14’, 24’, 53’, 59’) led the way with four goals, while Keanu Does (5’, 86’) and Gio-Renys Felicia (11’, 45’) each had braces, along with a goal from Ghillian Ilaria (64’) and a Dominica own goal from Donte Augustine (84’).

Anguilla and Saint Martin each earned their first point in 2022 CMU20Q in a 2-2 draw in Group B. Wendy Isidor’s goal in the 12’ and Romalli Chilin’s 67’ goal had Saint Martin closing in on a win, however, Jauron Gayle would be the hero for Anguilla as he scored a pair of goals in the 81’ and 88’ to earn his side a point.

The Dominican Republic also registered a big victory in a 2-0 win over Belize compliments goals from Angel Montes De Oca (16’) and Yordy Alvarez (23’).

Group A concludes on Saturday with Grenada and Curacao in a top-of-the-table clash for a place in the 2022 CMU20, while Dominica will go up against a confident British Virgin Islands team.

Group B promises an exciting match-up between hosts Dominican Republic and Saint Lucia to determine who will progress to the 2022 CMU20. The Anguilla–Belize match will close out the group.
