Caribbean teams still in the hunt in ConcacafW Qualifiers

Bridgetown, Barbados (April 08, 2022) – The ConcacafW Qualifiers saw some close finishes as teams jostle to position themselves to take the top spot in their respective groups.

That said, the day began and ended with two nil-all draws—Cuba and Honduras, and Guyana and Nicaragua were unable to separate themselves by the final whistle, but the results ended on a positive note for Cuba and Guyana. Both teams are in second place in their groups and only need a win to move onto the next round.

However, the day’s other matches ended with wins for Puerto Rico, St. Kitts and Nevis, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic.

Hosts Puerto Rico ensured they remain in the hunt for qualification after defeating Suriname 2-0 in Group A action at the Centro-americano Mayaguez stadium.

St. Kitts and Nevis delivered a shock defeat to the hosts Guatemala at the Estadio Pensativo. Two St. Kitts and Nevis Under-20 players secured the win for the Sugar Girlz but they remain in third position in Group B.

In Group D, Barbados had one of their best performances of the qualifiers despite going down to the hosts El Salvador 2 – 0 at the Estadio Cuscatlan. After suffering a 1st minute goal from El Salvador and an own goal in the 16’ the Lady Tridents held firm throughout the remainder of the match.

While in the Dominican Republic at the Olimpico Felix Sanchez, hosts edged Bermuda 1 –0 with a goal just three minutes before the end of regulation time in the 87’.
