BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (October 19, 2020)— Team Argentina prevailed 4-1 over Team Barbados when the sides met on Sunday at the Barbados Football Association’s (BFA) football pitch in Wildey. The encounter, which attracted members of the diplomatic corps, past national players and entertainers, was a send-off for the Argentinian Ambassador to Barbados and the OECS, H.E. Gustavo Pandiani.

While Team Argentina won the match, camaraderie won the day.

BFA President and Caribbean Football Union (CFU) President Randolph Harris said Ambassador Pandiani came as a diplomat and leaves as a friend.

“He made himself a part of our society. The second day he arrived in Barbados, without any prompting, he contacted me,” Harris said.

He recalled the ambassador’s instrumentality in the Barbados U-17 team spending a week training in Argentina and his overall interest in the BFA.

“It was a pleasure having you here, and I want to say it was the first time that any team from Barbados had an opportunity to visit one of our football goolygogs, Argentina. We were able to go there and play against the Argentine Under-17 National Team, and that in itself was a great honor for footballers from places like Barbados. I want to thank you for all you have done for the Barbados Football Association. We have never had an ambassador like you,” Harris said.

Ambassador Pandiani, meanwhile, said he would leave the Eastern Caribbean island with many friends and with warmth in his heart.

“I fell in love not only with Barbados football in the community, but I fell in love with all people. Each of you is part of my history, my memories, and my heart forever,” he said.

On the pitch, Senior Men’s Coach Russell Latapy led Team Barbados, while Roland Butcher led Team Argentina.
