PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (July 27, 2025)Champions of the Trinidad and Tobago Pro League, AC Port of Spain (ACP), comfortably defeated Scholars International of the Cayman Islands 2-1 in Match 10 of the 2025 CFU Club Shield on Sunday.

The first 15 minutes of the match at the Hasely Crawford Stadium saw ACP dominate possession with crisp passing and confident dribbling. However, they struggled to create clear chances to take the lead.

They had the first real opportunity when Haile Beckles pounced on a loose ball after Scholars’ defender Gawayne Speed slipped while attempting what seemed like a routine clearance. Beckles, however, was unable to finish as Scholars’ goalkeeper Deshawn Whittaker made an excellent save.

Three minutes later, Whittaker was called into action again when Leston Paul’s free kick sped across his six-yard box. Whittaker parried the ball away to safety.

The breakthrough came in the 28th minute when Beckles delivered a brilliant cross from the right. Whittaker came off his line to challenge, but was beaten to the ball by Shakiel Smek Henry. However, Whittaker managed to deflect it onto the boot of Josiah Wilson, who made no mistake in slotting it into the empty net.

Scholars’ players protested, claiming an apparent foul on their goalkeeper, who had to be substituted due to injury after the goal.

ACP led 1-0 at halftime.

The second half brought immediate action as Henry’s diving header struck the upright in the 46th minute.

Scholars then capitalized on a counterattack, with Christopher Brown finding himself alone in the ACP half after a long ball. The forward was one-on-one with the ACP goalkeeper and made light work of the chance, scoring with a superb finish into the top-right corner to equalize for Scholars in the 48th minute.

ACP regained the lead in the 85th minute when Beckles whipped in another excellent cross from the right. Substitute Jean-heim McFee slid to meet the ball, and with a well-timed effort, sent it into the back of the net to give ACP the go-ahead goal.

The final whistle confirmed ACP’s 2-1 victory.

Next, ACP will face the reigning Club Shield champions, Arnett Gardens, while Scholars will take on Club Franciscain on July 29, 2025.
