COUVA, Trinidad (July 31, 2026)—Delfines del Este FC prevailed 10–9 in a marathon penalty shootout after a hard-fought 0–0 draw with Metropolitan FC of Puerto Rico, booking their place in the 2026 CFU Club Shield Final. Playing on Friday at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago, the Dominican Republic outfit held their nerve from the spot to set up a championship clash with Jamaica's Mount Pleasant FA.

Delfines came close to breaking the deadlock in the 12th minute when Yonier Hinestroza found himself one-on-one with Metropolitan goalkeeper Josue Ayala. Ayala made an outstanding save to deny the forward, preserving the score at 0–0.

As the first half progressed, the intensity of the contest increased, with both teams battling fiercely in midfield. The physical nature of the encounter led to several bookings for players on both sides, but despite their efforts, neither team could break through before the halftime whistle.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with both sides creating promising opportunities while staying defensively disciplined. The goalkeepers continued to play pivotal roles, making timely saves to keep the match scoreless for the full 90 minutes.

With neither side able to score a decisive goal, the semifinal was decided from the penalty spot. Both teams showed remarkable composure as the shootout went into sudden death, but Delfines ultimately prevailed 10–9 to secure the win.

The Dominican Republic team now advances to Sunday's 2026 CFU Club Shield Final, where they will face Jamaica's Mount Pleasant FA.
