COUVA, Trinidad (July 28, 2026) — Hector Ramos and Fabian Bordagaray scored second-half goals, powering Metropolitan FA of Puerto Rico to a 2-1 comeback win over Helenites FC of the US Virgin Islands on Tuesday at the Ato Boldon Stadium, securing a place in the semifinals of the 2026 CFU Club Shield.

After falling behind in the opening half, Metropolitan responded with a dominant display after the break. Ramos leveled the contest with a glancing header in the 50th minute before Bordagaray completed the turnaround nine minutes later, helping the tournament favorites maintain their quest for regional glory.

Helenites FC, who earned automatic qualification to the quarterfinal stage, made the brighter start and took the lead in the 13th minute through Jimson St. Louis. Jaden McKree displayed excellent skill to control the ball, turn his defender, and drive a low cross across the face of goal, where St. Louis was perfectly positioned to apply the finishing touch for a 1-0 advantage.

Metropolitan FA enjoyed much of the possession for the rest of the first half but found it difficult to break down a disciplined Helenites defense. The US Virgin Islands’ side remained compact and organized, preserving its lead heading into the halftime interval.

The Puerto Rican club emerged from the break with renewed purpose and needed just five minutes to draw level. Hector Ramos rose highest to meet a cross and directed a glancing header beyond goalkeeper Ralph Montero to make it 1-1.

Metropolitan completed the comeback in the 59th minute when Gabriel Méndez delivered a dangerous ball across the penalty area. Bordagaray timed his run perfectly, arriving at the top of the box to steer his finish past the outstretched Montero calmly and give his side a 2-1 lead.

Helenites searched for an equalizer during the closing stages but struggled to carve out any clear scoring opportunities against Metropolitan's disciplined back line. The Puerto Rican side remained composed defensively and comfortably saw out the rest of the match to seal its place in the final four.

The victory sends Metropolitan FA into the semifinals of the 2026 CFU Club Shield, while Helenites FC's impressive tournament run comes to an end.
