COUVA, Trinidad (August 1, 2025)—Moca FC and Weymouth Wales set up a final showdown of the 2025 CFU Club Shield by winning their semifinal match-ups at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Friday. The teams, by being the competition’s ultimate finalists, also advanced to the CONCACAF Caribbean Cup.

AFC Eagles 0(4-5)0 Moca FC

Playing against Academy Eagles FC, Moca needed a penalty shootout to prevail 5-4, after the teams were deadlocked nil-all at the end of regular time.

Moca FC settled first and imposed their will on proceedings. They sent an early warning in the 3rd minute with Yohan Parra coming close to scoring, but his shot was only denied by the upright. Parra continued to put the Academy Eagles defense on their heels with purposeful running-in behind, as well as combination play with Valentino Sabella.

Sabella should have scored in the 13th minute but shot into the side netting after being played through by Juan DeJesus. The men from the Dominican Republic continued to make inroads into the Academy Eagles’ defense, and Sebastian Turbyfield was forced to make a diving save in the 27th minute to keep out a left-footed Sabella shot that seemed destined for the bottom corner.

Meanwhile, Academy Eagles looked dangerous, mainly on the counter-attacks, with powerful running by Jean Innocent. But the Moca defense marshaled each run.  Turbyfield kept his team in the game, executing a point-blank save off Sergio Ventura five minutes before the break when the forward elected to shoot rather than square to Parra.

The teams went into the interval with the score deadlocked nil-all.

On resumption, Moca promptly reasserted their dominance on the match, with skipper Richard Dabas pulling the strings from midfield. Parra was again putting the defense under pressure, and his cross was just out of reach of Gustavo Ascona.

Sabella was provided with another goal-scoring opportunity in the 57th minute but shot wide of the goal from just outside the penalty area with Turbyfield scrambling to make his ground. Parra was denied again by Turbyfield in the 73rd minute after a defense-splitting run.

Desperate to make the dominance in possession count, Coach Jorge Alfonso turned to his bench, and it was one of those substitutes who nearly got the job done.  A Dabas defense splitting pass was just out of reach of a sliding Olivier Duran with only Turbyfield to beat.

Moca FC was awarded an 82nd-minute penalty, and Dabas stepped up to take, but Turbyfield guessed correctly and pulled off another sensational save.

Turbyfield was called upon in stoppage time and answered the call yet again, diving to his left to keep out the Moca FC attack. The full-time whistle was not long in coming, ending the match at a 0-0 stalemate and sending the teams to penalty kicks.

In the ensuing penalty shootout, Moca was perfect from the spot, pulling off a 5-4 victory. The goal scorers were Eduard Puga, Richard Dabas, Keudy Jimenez, Jose Francisco, and Guillermo De Pena.

Anthony Stewart, Kevern De Bellot, Junior Paul, and Jean Innocent were successful for the Academy Eagles.  Peterson Pluviose missed his spot kick.

WEYMOUTH WALES FC 2-1 CLUB FRANCISCAIN

Club Franciscain started the match attacking at full force at the goal with their fancy one-two combination passes. Johnny Marajo made no mistakes in opening the scoring in the 12th minute of play. This gave the team all the motivation they needed to stay ahead in the match.

However, after 20 minutes of play, Weymouth Wales finally found their footing. They retaliated in the 26th minute of play with a shot from midfielder Jaheim Neblett outside the 18-yard box.

Weymouth further extended their lead in the 39th minute when forward Shaquille Stewart caught goalkeeper Alrick Boulois flat-footed and off guard.

As the time wound down, Weymouth was solely focused on defending their lead and therefore switched to defensive mode. This made it impossible for Club Franciscain to find the equalizer they were so desperately seeking.

Moca and Weymouth Wales will dispute the final on August 3 at 7:45 PM at Ato Boldon Stadium. Before that match, at 5 PM, Academy Eagles and Club Franciscain will contest the third-place game.
