SV Transvaal move on to the 2025 CFU Club Shield semis
ARIMA, Trinidad (July 29, 2025)—SV Transvaal of Suriname and All Saints United of Antigua and Barbuda played to a 0-0 stalemate in Group C action of the 2025 CFU Club Shield on Tuesday, with both missing out on a chance to qualify for the semifinals
With everything to play for and with both teams separated by goal difference only, the start of the encounter was uncharacteristically cautious.
As the match wore on, All Saints United looked to take the attack to the Surinamese side with combination play by D’Andre Bishop and Raheem Deterville, but a well-marshaled Transvaal defense comfortably dealt with their efforts.
Jardel Williams got in behind the All Saints United defense in the 28th minute but shot directly at Jayden Martin in goal. Three minutes later, Finidi Misiedjan found Johan Lisse streaking into the penalty area, but the latter skied his effort.
Transvaal, firmly in the ascendancy now, continued the attack, and only a well-timed Thompson sliding challenge prevented Misiedjan from opening the scoring. Blake was on hand again with another timely interception, this time to deny Lisse, getting onto the end of a squared ball, ensuring that the teams went into the halftime interval 0-0.
With nothing separating the sides, the second half began in earnest, with both teams looking to break the deadlock. Misiedjan was again in the thick of the action, but his headed attempt in the 59th minute failed to trouble Martin.
Head Coach Regillio Vroom made a triple change shortly afterward, seeking to add some attacking impetus to the game. However, it was All Saints United who took charge of this portion of the game.
Paulo Santos had to be quick off his line to avert danger after Bishop was played through by Jahzino O’garro, as well as claiming crosses swung in by Deterville and Zafique Drew.
Both teams continued to battle, and momentum swung Transvaal’s way. Artist Enrico looked to pick out Misiedjan in the box, but was well read by Martin, and a 70th-minute free-kick from substitute Lalanie Tooy grazed the left upright.
Coach Niel Jeffers responded with a triple change of his own and was almost instantly rewarded. One of those substitutes, Shalon Knight, twice came close to breaking the stalemate. Santos barely kept out his free-kick from wide left of the goal at the near post, and the ensuing corner kick hit the upright.
Another substitute, Vaughn Jackson Jr, was brought down just outside the penalty area in the 88th minute, and the young forward curled his effort over the wall but was kept out by a brilliant Santos save.
Three minutes of second-half stoppage time was enough for another change in momentum as Shafello Bojanski and Tooy both had chances to win it for Transvaal, but both fluffed their lines.
The final whistle signaled not only a 0-0 draw, but an end to the competition for both teams as Weymouth Wales FC produced a convincing 8-0 win over Wolves FC to top Group C and secure a semifinal berth.
