PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (July 25, 2026) — Barbados' Weymouth Wales FC held their nerve during a penalty shootout to defeat Aruba's SV Britannia 5-4 after the teams played to a 1–1 draw in regulation time in the second Round of 16 match of the 2026 CFU Caribbean Club Shield on Saturday.

Last year's runners-up, Weymouth Wales, returned to the competition looking to build on their impressive 2025 campaign, while SV Britannia were also making a return appearance after featuring in last year's tournament.

The Barbadians made the ideal start, opening the scoring in the sixth minute when Armando Lashley powered home a diving header to give his side an early advantage.

SV Britannia responded positively and nearly found an equalizer in the 14th minute. Captain Stiven Melchor curled a dangerous free kick toward goal, but Weymouth Wales goalkeeper Kishmar Primus produced an outstanding save to preserve his team's lead.

The Aruban club's persistence was rewarded deep into first-half stoppage time. In the second minute of added time (45+2), Jairo Castillo delivered an inch-perfect free kick into the penalty area, where Edgardo Peralta rose to head home the equalizer, sending the teams into the halftime break level at 1–1.

Both sides continued to press for a winner after the restart, creating several promising opportunities in an entertaining second half. However, disciplined defending and solid goalkeeping at both ends ensured the deadlock remained intact.

The contest took a fiery turn in the 84th minute when tensions boiled over following a confrontation between players. After restoring order, the referee issued straight red cards to Weymouth Wales' Rashad Jules and SV Britannia's Edgardo Peralta.

With neither side able to find a decisive goal before the final whistle, the match was settled from the penalty spot.

Weymouth Wales held their composure throughout the shootout, converting four penalties to SV Britannia’s three, to book their place in the quarterfinals.
