Weymouth Wales top Group C to advance to the 2025 Club Shield semifinals
COUVA, Trinidad (July 29, 2025)—Weymouth Wales FC of Barbados emphatically booked their place in the semifinals of the 2025 CFU Club Shield with an 8–0 victory over Wolues FC at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Tuesday.
Coming into the Group C clash, Weymouth Wales were favourites, having won their opening match. But with three teams in the group level on three points, goal difference was crucial, and Weymouth needed a convincing win to ensure advancement. They delivered.
The scoring began early when Nicoli Brathwaite set up Kemar Headley, who calmly placed his shot into the far corner to give Weymouth a 1–0 lead. In the 23rd minute, Akeem Hill nearly doubled the advantage with a powerful header, but the effort was deflected for a corner.
Weymouth continued to dominate possession and create chances but lacked clinical finishing. Jaheim Neblett set up Haden Holligan in the 31st minute, but the shot flew just wide.
Their persistence paid off in the 34th minute when Wolues goalkeeper Herculano De Jesus mishandled a routine save, allowing Shaquille Stewart to pounce and slot home for 2–0. Just before halftime, in the 45+2 minute, Holligan intercepted a pass and finished confidently to make it 3–0 going into the break.
The second half started just as the first ended — with Weymouth in control. Two minutes after the restart, Holligan struck again, notching his second of the match and Weymouth’s fourth. Wolues struggled to get out of their half, as the relentless pressure from the Barbadian side continued.
Stewart added his second in the 70th minute, capitalizing on a loose ball in the box to make it 5–0. Ten minutes later, substitute Jante James was brought down in the area, and Andre Applewhaite converted the resulting penalty to extend the lead to six.
Things went from bad to worse for Wolues in the 88th minute, when Ciaran Johnston received a straight red card for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Applewhaite stepped up again and buried his second penalty to make it 7–0.
The rout was complete in the 90th minute when substitute Armando Lasley added an eighth, putting the finishing touch on a ruthless performance.
Weymouth Wales FC top Group C with six points and will play Club Franciscain on Friday. Wolues finished last in the group.
