French Guiana claims Tier II trophy
Dominica 0 –1 French Guiana
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (August 24, 2025)—French Guiana emerged as the new Tier II champions of the 2025 CFU U14 Challenge Series Girls with a 1-0 victory over Dominica on Sunday at the Ato Boldon Stadium. The clash, which pitted the top teams from Tier II Groups A and B, saw French Guiana edge out their opponents in a tightly contested final.
Both teams started cautiously, with little action in the opening exchanges. However, the French Guiana players gradually found their rhythm and began dominating possession. Their persistence paid off in the 24th minute when Naylann Xavier delivered a perfectly weighted pass through the Dominica defence, finding an onrushing Tiffany Dadoe. Dadoe calmly slotted the ball to the far post, past goalkeeper Sermyah Charles, to give French Guiana the lead.
Just before halftime, French Guiana threatened again with two consecutive chances, both involving Dadoe breaking through the defence—only for the runs to be flagged offside.
In the second half, French Guiana continued pressing. In the 38th minute, Xavier showcased her skill once more, beating her marker before setting up Matanya Roberts, whose first-time effort went just wide.
Dominica had a golden opportunity to level the match in the 42nd minute when a free kick was awarded just outside the box on the right. Nyah Etienne stepped up, but her strike narrowly missed, sailing over the crossbar.
The Dominican goalkeeper kept her team in the game with a series of heroic saves. In the 58th minute, French Guiana broke through in a 2v1 situation. Dadoe chose to go for the goal herself rather than pass to the unmarked Marisca Amito, and Charles made a brilliant stop. Just six minutes later, Charles was called into action again, this time using her feet to deny a powerful effort from Amito.
Despite French Guiana maintaining the upper hand throughout, Dominica’s resilience and defensive discipline kept the scoreline close.
Credit is due to the Dominican side for their determination and the exceptional performance of their goalkeeper, who played a crucial role in limiting the margin of defeat.
Dadoe’s industry earned her the MVP of the final award. The French Guiana custodian, Keysha Balotte, earned the award for best overall Tier II sgoalkeeper. St. Lucia’s Kayla Polius, with 10 conversions, was the leading goal-scorer in Tier II.
