SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (March 5, 2020) – Two Caribbean teams—Dominican Republic and Haiti—are amongst the semifinalists for the 2020 Concacaf Under-20 Women’s Championship. The other two teams are the United States and Mexico.

Wednesday’s quarterfinals started with a historic moment when hosts Dominican Republic earned a 2-1 win over Jamaica at Estadio Panamericano in San Cristobal. It marks the first time that the Dominican Republic have reached the semifinals of any Concacaf tournament in either men’s or women’s football.

Kristina Garcia gave the Dominican Republic a 1-0 lead in the 35’, but Jody Brown equalized for Jamaica in the 37’ to bring her goal tally to nine for the tournament.

In the end, the Dominican Republic emerged victorious as Mia Asenjo scored in the 74’ for a 2-1 score line.

The second match of the day in San Cristobal saw another good performance from Haiti as their leading goal scorer, Melchie Dumornay, secured a hat-trick in her country’s 3-0 win over Guyana. Dumornay scored in the 18’, 54’ and 60’, giving her 13 goals in the tournament to date.

At Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo, USA and Mexico advanced with 4-0 wins over Canada and Trinidad and Tobago respectively.

With a pair of goals each from Mia Fischel (35’ 67’) and Briana Pinto (41’ 54’), USA easily toppled Canada. Fischel’s double strike now gives her 10 goals for the tournament, the second highest in this current tournament thus far.

The day was rounded out by Mexico topping Trinidad and Tobago. Just before the first half ended in the 45’+ 1, Annette Vasquez gave Mexico the boost they needed to see victory. Three more goals then followed from Gabriela Juarez (56’), Alison Gonzalez in the (68’) and Destinee Manzo (71’).
