The Executive Committee of the Caribbean Football Union has extended the deadline for the post of General Secretary until Friday 8th November, 2019.

Position Title:  General Secretary
Reports to: CFU Executive Committee / CFU President
Position based in: Jamaica or Barbados
 
COMPANY INFORMATION:
The Caribbean Football Union (CFU) is one of the Confederation of North, Central America and the Caribbean Association Football’s Unions (Concacaf). The CFU is comprised of 31 Member Associations, representing sporting and administrative talent in the Caribbean (English, Dutch, French and Spanish-speaking).
The CFU is committed to develop, promote and raise the level of football throughout the Caribbean region.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Job Purpose
To plan, direct and deliver the operations of the CFU in fulfilling its mission to promote, foster and develop the game offootball across the Caribbean region.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • To introduce, develop, review, update and implement strategies aimed at promoting and developing football inthe Caribbean
  • To devise and develop an operational strategy, submitting plans and proposals to the executive committee fordecisions
  • To provide the CFU with direction and leadership to deliver its commercial objectives as agreed with the Executive Committee and President, including consolidating and growing existing income streams as well as identifying and exploiting new income streams
  • To lead the workforce of the CFU in order to ensure the efficient and effective management of all operations
  • To motivate and inspire the staff, creating a culture which allows staff to develop to their full potential
  • To manage and be accountable for the financial performance of the CFU, monitoring and controlling costs in line with the objectives set by the Congress and Executive committee
  • To ensure that the CFU has a well-considered communications strategy and to oversee and direct its effective execution
  • To maintain and grow relationships with Concacaf and other Unions
  • To maintain and develop with all aspects of the media in order to highlight the work of the CFU, initiating positive PR activities
  • To lead and develop major projects aimed at raising the profile of football in the Caribbean
  • To support the Executive Committee and President in ensuring that the CFU delivers on all of its statutory requirements and promotes the highest standard of corporate governance and transparency
  • To perform such other duties and responsibilities as instructed by the Executive Committee and President from time to time
 
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job, using some other combination of skills and abilities:
  • The successful candidate must have proven experience in a high profile, complex, multi-stakeholder organization
  • Ideally, the candidate will have a track record of running a substantial business and will already have the experience to take on this role
  • Whilst it is not essential that the successful candidate comes from a football background, it is expected that they must have an understanding of and empathy with football as both a sport and a business
  • Evidence of success in brokering collaborative working relationships with a range of stakeholders across an industry will be vital
  • Well-developed leadership and management skills plus a track record of creating a culture of performance
  • Evidence of having developed senior management teams to deliver operationally against strategic targets
  • Sound financial management and negotiation skills
  • Evidence of having managed organizational change
  • Significant commercial achievements
  • As a high-profile public face of the game across the region, the candidate should also possess skills and experience in managing relationships with the media
  • A versatile and persuasive leader, capable of building interest, with a dynamic personality
  • A hands-on style with considerable personal credibility and authority
  • Maturity in terms of presentational style and behaviour
  • Good people management and team building skills
  • High energy, drive and enthusiasm and the ability to prioritize and juggle conflicting demands
  • Calm but firm communication style and general demeanour
  • Good strategic thinker – an influencer and shaper
  • Resilient, patient and diplomatic, with gravitas and presence, a leader by example
 
Due to the cyclical nature of the sports industry, the employee may be required to work varying schedules including game nights to reflect the business needs of the company.
