Guyana names 20-man squad ahead of Concacaf Nations League encounters

GEORGETOWN, Guyana (August 31, 2019) — Newly-appointed Head Coach of the Golden Jaguars, Guyana’s senior men’s national team, Brazilian Márcio Máximo has shortlisted a 20-man squad to play the first two matches of the Concacaf Nations League against Aruba and Jamaica respectively.

Coach Maximo said although he has been with the team for just 10 days, he has been able to see the characteristics of the players to provide a good combination of locally-based and international players.

Maximo said preparations have been going well and while there are no guarantees in international football, the intention is to win the upcoming matches. 

 “The guys are very motivated. They have shown great interest and, of course, they understand the tactical elements,” the coach said. We will go to the game with optimism that we can have a good result against both Aruba and Jamaica.” 

The Golden Jaguars take on Aruba on the September 6 in Curacao and Jamaica on home soil at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora at 7 pm September 9 in the first week of matches in League B of the Concacaf Nations League.
