Motagua wins 2-0 over Waterhouse in the Scotiabank Concacaf League

25th September 2019, Kingston, Jamaica – Motagua of Honduras defeated Waterhouse FC 2-0 in the first of two legs in the Scotiabank Concacaf League Quarter-finals at Independence Park in Jamaica’s capital, Kingston.
Waterhouse FC got off to an impressive start, breaching Motagua’s defense several times in the first half with many attempts on goal. However, they were unable put away two clear chances after Stephen Williams shot wide in the 5th minute while Andre Fletcher’s shot was saved by Motagua’s Goalkeeper Jonathan Rougier in the 13thminute.
The second half on the contrary, saw a turn of events as Motagua’s resilience paid off with a double strike in six minutes. Marcel Pereira broke the deadlock in the 66th minute poking home a rebound from a freekick while Kevin Lopez made it 2-0 in 72nd minute. The score then held until the end of the match, as Waterhouse attempted to make a comeback though they lost Nicholas Finlayson in the 82nd minute when he was given a red card.
With this result, Waterhouse’s challenge has been made all the greater going into the second leg away to Motagua on the 2nd October, 2019 at the Olimpico Metropolitano in Honduras.
