US prevail over Canada

KANSAS CITY, Kansas (July 18, 2021)—The United States prevailed 1-0 against Canada in a keenly contested game at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas on Sunday night that determined the winner of Group B of the 2021 edition of the Gold Cup.
Shaq Moore opened the scoring in the first minute of play when Sebastian Lletget passed the ball across the goal and Moore was unmarked at the back post and tapped it pass Maxime Crepeau.
Canada had an opportunity to equalize just before the half after a defensive back pass landed on the boot of Junior Hoilett, but he could not capitalize and kicked it straight to Matt Turner, the US custodian.
The first half ended 1-0 in favor of the US.
Canada came close to equalizing in the 78th minute of play from a Tajon Buchanan strike but it went wide of the goal post.
The US walked away victors at the end of the tense encounter was intense, however it was USA who walked away with the 3 points and Group B winners. Both teams are in the quarterfinals.
