Young refs receive their certificates

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (December 9, 2019) – Twenty-eight students who participated in the Barbados Schools Referee Development Program received their certificates on Monday in a ceremony at the Sir Garfield Sobers Complex in Wildey.

Ajani Straughn of Combermere School had the distinction of earning the highest grade on the examination.

The ceremony follows a three-day, groundbreaking program in November, a joint initiative of the BFA and Concacaf, to bolster the referee ranks.

Speaking at the ceremony, BFA General Secretary Edwyn Wood urged the young referees to maintain their fitness and their knowledge, to be disciplined and to be ready to answer duty’s call.

“You never know when the call will come, Wood said.

Several of the youth referees were in actin at the weekend in the Nextplay finals. The group is also qualified to officiate matches in the Barbados Schools’ Football Program.
